    Sound Production of English Dental Fricatives by Papuan EFL Students

    This study aims to reveal to what extent Papuan EFL students correctly produce English dental fricatives and to find out what consonants substitute voiceless dental fricative /θ/ and voiced dental fricative /ð/ when misarticulation occurs. A descriptive analysis of 30 native Papuan EFL students was taken as the participants of the study. Data were collected by giving pronunciation tests and targets of either voiceless dental fricative /θ/ or voiced dental fricative /ð/ in an onset or coda syllable position. Correct sound production of English dental fricatives, both voiceless and voiced dental fricatives, by Papuan EFL students hardly found and almost unrecognized that only 12.0% of Papuan EFL students correctly pronounce voiceless dental fricative /θ/ and only 3.3% of Papuan EFL students correctly pronounce voiced dental fricative /ð/. It can be stated that the sound production of English dental fricatives lies in low-level production. Furthermore, Papuan EFL students mostly substitute voiceless dental fricative /θ/ with voiceless alveolar plosive /t/ indicated by 84.0% sound substitution. In other words, Papuan L1 speakers dominantly substitute the consonant /θ/ with the consonant /t/. Papuan EFL students frequently substitute voiced dental fricative /ð/ with both voiced alveolar plosive /d/ indicated by 51.6%, and voiceless alveolar plosive /t/ indicated by 43.3% substitution. Thus, Papuan L1 speakers primarily replace the consonant /ð/ with both consonant /d/ and /t/.     BLENDED CURRICULUM OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BASED ON PESANTREN AS TOOL ONTO FORM JUVENILE CHARACTER AT URBAN AREA

    This article aims to investigate the Curriculum of Vocational High School base on pesantren as the main core of education which especially at urban area and to discover character as impact of it. It is expected that the brawl between schools in the city can be reduced. The brawler is dominated by students of vocational high school, moreover it comes up since a Youtuber explained his story on YouTube media. This is reinforced by the start of the vacuum of middle school students in studying religion. This research used a qualitative approach and the type of the research is field research. Informants in this study were Kyai, Principal, Teachers and Students. Data collection used interviews, direct observation and documentation. Data validation utilized triangulation by three of data resources and triangulation by three of data collecting technique. The data analysis used was the Miles and Huberman model. The steps were data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The research results presented that Curriculum of Pesantren-Based Vocational High School is a combination of general curriculum of Vocational High School and Pesantren Curriculum. This consists of curriculum objectives that students are able to master General Science as well as Religious Science. Second, the content / subject is in the form of vocational lessons and kitab kuning. Third, the teaching method uses bandongan, lecture, question and answer and practice methods. Fourth, the organizations that play a role are all stakeholders of schools and Islamic boarding schools. Fifth, evaluation is carried out in teacher meeting forums, teacher personal evaluations and meetings between teachers and Kyai. Sixth, the characters formed consist of religious, tolerance, discipline, National spirit and Love of homeland, tolerance, social caring and Friendly/communicative

    DYNAMIC ESTABLISHMENT OF PONDOK PESANTREN IN THE MINORITY AREA OF JAYAPURA CITY

    This paper discusses the dynamics of the establishment of Islamic boarding schools in the minority areas of Jayapura City. This research method is a qualitative research with the approach used is the phenomenological approach and scientific approaches in the form of sociological and historical. The source of the data of this research is the boarding school caretakers, religious teachers, students, community leaders, traditional leaders, coaches, mentors, educators, and the community. Furthermore, the data collection methods used are observation, interview, documentation, and triangulation. The next stage is data processing techniques and data analysis is done through data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results of this study indicate that there are three concepts that become the dynamics of the establishment of huts in minority areas, namely: 1) History of its establishment including: there are indications of apostasy in remote areas of transimigration in Jayapura and Keerom Papua, the assumption of the Islamization of the majority of people in Jayapura, the existence of mosques which is very quiet from the pilgrims, the assumption of Islamic boarding schools as a stronghold of Muslims, and the assumption that Islamic boarding schools print human resources with a radical mindset, the involvement of traditional leaders. 2) Institutional development, including: formal and non-formal education. 3) Contributions of Islamic boarding schools include: the social religious field, the field of religious harmony, and the cultural field based on local wisdom

    Politeness strategies used by Papuan students in virtual communication practices at university

    This study aims at investigating and revealing language politeness strategies, as well as the factors that influence politeness strategies used by Papuan students during virtual in the context of virtual academic consultations as a practice of virtual communications to the lecturers. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods and purposive sampling to choose two lecturers and fifteen university students from the Papua as participants. Data was also gathered through online observation, offline interviews, and documentation. Online observations were made by evaluating screenshots of Google Classroom comments and recording of written conversations on WhatsApp and SMS sent by ten Papuan students. At the same time, offline interviews were carried out 10 students and 2 instructors. The data is then analysed using discourse analysis, which consists of multiple steps, including data recording, data transcription, data selection, and data interpretation. In line with the findings of this study, Papuan students use four types of politeness strategies when consulting with lecturers via virtual communication. They are positive, negative, bald on record, and off the record politeness strategies. In online communication, the negative politeness strategy is the most prevalent among Papuan students. The diversity of politeness strategies that are replicated, even if they appear unpleasant at times, is not an aspect of purposeful or disrespectful behaviour toward the interlocutor. But let us get back to the level of language skills, which still require more attention and are impacted by a variety of internal factors such as personality and age, and external factors such as culture, facilities obtained. The findings indicate that even when language capabilities are restricted in virtual communication, Papuan students receive enough education. This situation will improve the civility of language that students in Papua use while conversing digitally. As a result, higher education institutions in Papua should pay more attention to standard communication patterns when academic consulting with lecturers as speech partners in the context of higher education in Papua in order to develop comprehensive and effective communication practices

    Strategi Pendidikan Agama Islam dengan Metode Thing Pair Share pada Tingkat Madrasah

    This study was done to determine the role of the object pair and share cooperative learning approach at the madrasah level in presenting Islam education, which up to this point has only used the traditional system. This study was also done to determine how engaged the student or students were in using this form of learning. especially on content about Islam. The classroom action research approach, which was derived from Kemmis & Tagart's approach, was employed in this study. This approach is a two-cycle research paradigm that includes several steps, including planning, action implementation, observation, and method reflection. This study's major goal is to find out how much is known about the cooperative think pair and share (TPS) approach used to offer Islamic religious instruction. According to the study's findings, there has been an upsurge in Madrasah-level Islamic religious education activities. In conclusion, the Think, Pair, and Share approach is a technique that helps boost students' creativity, which can make them more engaged in discussions, receptive to other people's viewpoints, and active in both teaching and learning.   Keywords: Madrasah, Islamic Religious Education, Think Pair Shar

The research aims to determine the role of managers in developing the organization, the form of activities undertaken, and the inhibitory factor of activities conducted by BKMT Jayapura. The management of BKMT Jayapura is expected to be able to conduct communication with the founder of BKMT Jayapura so that the exchange process, understanding the information conducted between the Board with the founder of BKMT.     The purpose of this research is to find out: The community practices pre-wedding photos and the factors that influence the practice of pre-wedding photos among Muslim communities in Regency and Jayapura City. This is a qualitative research, using the social phenomenology paradigm. Research results: People think that pre-wedding photos in invitations or displayed in front of the wedding building as identity the bride and groom. Pre-wedding photos used on invitation cards or as decoration for wedding party decorations. The pose of the bride and groom are dominant aspects of making pre-wedding photos which are symbols consisting of concepts. Imitation and modification in the practice of pre-wedding photos both through media which is sometimes without a filter from the community to counteract. Pre-wedding photos are due to trends that occur in modern society. The issue of photography becomes clear when mapped that the law can be mubah or permissible if it does not violate religious provisions. Conversely, it can become haram if the photo is against religious law. In Islamic perspective, making out before muhrim even though they have made an engagement is not justified. It is forbidden to take photos with men and women who are not muhrim, ikhtilat (mixing of men and women), khalwat (being alone together) and kasyfulaurat (opening the aurat).     The purpose of this research is to determine the Role of Kiai in the Development of Modern Education in Islamic Boarding Schools. The method used is qualitative research with a literature review approach. The steps in this research include identifying literature sources, such as books, scientific journals, research papers, and other relevant documents related to the research topic. There are several steps that researchers must undertake in this study, including: a. Determining the research topic, b. Finding relevant literature sources, c. Selecting relevant and quality literature sources, d. Reading and evaluating the selected literature sources, e. Organizing data and extracting relevant information, f. Analyzing data, and g. Preparing a research report. The conclusion of this study is that the difference between Salafiyah and Khalafiyah Islamic boarding schools lies in their approach and view of Islamic teachings. Islamic boarding schools have many advantages and benefits for students in developing themselves. They provide a comprehensive and in-depth learning experience, as well as preparing students to live independently and contribute to society. The leadership style of Kiai has characteristics that can help develop Islamic boarding schools effectively. The transactional and transformational leadership applied by Kiai can bring Islamic boarding schools to a higher level of quality education. Additionally, effective leadership characteristics of Kiai can create a conducive environment for students to learn, for teachers to engage and grow, and for community support to help improve the quality of education provided by the Islamic boarding schools.Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui Peran Kiai Dalam Pengembangan Pendidikan Modern Di Pondok Pesantren. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitataif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka. Adapun langkah-langkah dapam penelitian ini yaitu Sumber pustaka yang dimaksud dalam metode penelitian studi pustaka meliputi buku, jurnal ilmiah, makalah, laporan penelitian, dan dokumen-dokumen lain yang relevan dengan topik penelitian yang akan dilakukan. Ada beberapa langkah yang harus dilakukan peneliti dalam penelitian ini, antara lain: a. Menentukan topik penelitian, b. Mencari sumber pustaka yang relevan, c. Menyeleksi sumber pustaka yang relevan dan berkualitas, d. Membaca dan mengevaluasi sumber pustaka yang telah dipilih, e. Menyusun data dan mengekstrak informasi yang relevan, f. Analisis data, g. Menyusun laporan penelitian. Adapaun kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perbedaan antara pesantren Salafiyah dan pesantren Khalafiyah terletak pada pendekatan dan pandangan mereka terhadap ajaran Islam, pendidikan pesantren memiliki banyak keunggulan dan manfaat bagi santri dalam mengembangkan diri. Pesantren memberikan pengalaman belajar yang komprehensif dan mendalam, serta mempersiapkan santri untuk hidup mandiri dan berkontribusi bagi masyarakatpola kepemimpinan Kiai memiliki karakteristik yang dapat membantu mengembangkan pesantren dengan baik. Kepemimpinan transaksional dan transformasional yang diterapkan oleh Kiai dapat membawa pesantren menjadi lembaga pendidikan yang lebih berkualitas. Selain itu, karakteristik kepemimpinan kiai yang efektif dapat menciptakan iklim yang kondusif bagi Santri untuk belajar, para ustadz terlibat dan bertumbuh, serta dukungan dari komunitas dapat membantu pesantren dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan yang diselenggarakan.&nbsp

    Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui penanganan kesulitan siswa memahami mata pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam melalui menerapkan metode ekspositori pada kegiatan belajar mengajar, serta mengetahui kendala-kendala yang ditimbulkan dan mengganggu penyerapan pengetahuan dari guru kepada murid, serta untuk mengetahui hasil belajar dari siswa Kelas VA SDN INPRES Abeale 2 Sentani Kabupaten Jayapura menggunakan metode ekspositori. Merupakan penelitian Tindakan Kelas menggunakan 19 sampel. Prosedur penelitian yang dilakukan merujuk siklus kegiatan mengacu pada desain model Lewin, menggunakan statistik sederhana dengan mencari prosentase. Hasil penelitian: Test awal diketahui siswa banyak yang memiliki nilai di bawah syarat kecukupan dari beberapa pertanyaan yang diberikan, pada siklus I. Hasil pengamatan tahap pendahuluan, terdapat peningkatan hasil belajar, disebabkan siswa memperoleh penyegaran pada kegiatan belajar, menyebabkan usaha pemusatan perhatian selama pembelajaran. Siswa lebih suka menjawab pertanyaan, dibuktikan dengan hasil test siklus I, terdapat siswa yang memiliki nilai di bawah syarat kecukupan, jumlahnya semakin sedikit dibandingkan test awal. Hasil pengamatan siklus II, aktifitas siswa cukup baik melalui keinginan dalam mengikuti aktifitas pembelajaran, sangat memuaskan terlihat peningkatan prestasi belajar dibanding siklus I. Ini nampak pada aktifitas siswa dalam bertanya yang ketika pre test terlihat malu-malu serta takut salah, namun siklus II siswa mulai memberanikan bertanya dengan bobot pertanyaannya sesuai yang diharapkan. Syarat kecukupan nilai yang dihasilkan siswa lebih baik dibandingkan awal test dan dalam test siklus I
